Why the Progressive fibrotomy is chosen?
- Progressive fibrotomy is a unique surgical method for the correction of pathologies of the locomotor system occurring in cerebral palsy. Compared to classical surgical methods, the surgery is low-traumatic, performed without skin incisions and does not require subsequent immobilisation (casting). Using a special instrument, pathological (fibrous) structures in the muscle-fascial segment are sectioned. As a result, the muscle becomes more elastic, its functionality improves and the volume of joint movements increases. The procedure is distinguished by its rapidity, therefore, the patient's time under anaesthesia is significantly reduced. An important advantage of the method is that there is no need for prolonged hospitalisation - the surgeries are performed in a ‘one-day hospital’ visits facilitating the patient's further rapid recovery at home.
